It is often the case with winners at various bingo halls that they believe they have only won the in-house prize, generally an amount that is less than £100.
However, for a lucky player at the Gala Bingo hall in Clacton, it was just £35 that she thought she’d netted when she called House. The special game cost this player just £1 to play but having called in less than 40 numbers, she won £20,000.
Meltdown By Gala Bingo Player
The anonymous winner is unemployed and according to the deputy manager of the Gala Bingo venue, Jean Taylor, she had a bit of a meltdown when she realised how much she had won!
The deputy manager picks up the story by saying
The winner is one of our regulars and is at the club most days with her mum. When she realised how much she had won, she was shaking uncontrollably.
I thought she was going to faint, all the colour drained from her face. She was practically hyperventilating with the shock and excitement. She was shaking so much, she was having trouble playing the game as she couldn’t hold her dabber.
We treated her to a Malibu and coke and a bottle of champagne. That seemed to calm her a little.
The win comes just in time for the player as she is getting married later this year and the plan is to use a hefty chunk of her winnings for the wedding and celebrations.
About Gala Bingo, Clacton
This venue first opened in 1936 as a cinema. In 1967 it was converted to two different venues, one housing the cinema and the other the bingo hall.
It is the only cinema in the country that is run by Gala Bingo itself.
