It may not have been the ideal time for him to quit the band with One Direction currently in the midst of a world tour, but Zayn Malik has issued an apology to any fans that he may have let down after making his decision to leave this week to be “a normal 22-year old.”
Zayn was signed off from the Tour ten days ago having been diagnosed with stress, but the announcement was made on Wednesday that he would be leaving the band permanently which brought social networks into a meltdown with some fans even asking their bosses to give them compassionate leave to deal with the decision.
The 22-year old who is engaged to Little Mix star Perrie Edwards, arrived back in the UK to a media storm with photographers desperate for a photo as he returned to his parents’ home, but he has since given one interview to the Sun newspaper in which he describes his decision to leave the biggest boyband on the planet as “crazy” and “a bit wild.”
Zayn told the reporter that “I can’t do this anymore. I’ve never felt more in control in my life. I feel like I’m doing what’s right, right by myself and right by the boys.”
While stories had been coming out in the media speculating that Zayn, and even Harry Styles, were tempted to leave the band; Zayn denied any rifts between the five lads saying that although he had had “differences of opinion at times” he had tried to do something he wasn’t happy with for a while to please the fans and paying public, and he just couldn’t do it any more.
He went on to say that “I only feel sad because I feel that I’ve let people down.”
The band, managed by Simon Cowell, have vowed to continue as a four piece and the world tour will continue as planned.
